How to Create a Dynamic QR Code

Dynamic QR codes encode a short redirect URL rather than a destination URL directly. This means you can update where the code points from your WordPress dashboard at any time — without reprinting. This guide covers creating your first dynamic URL QR code, customizing its appearance, and exporting it for print or digital use.
  1. 1

Go to QR Suite › QR Codes › Add New

In your WordPress admin, navigate to QR Suite › QR Codes and click the "Add New" button at the top of the list.

  2. 2

    Select the Dynamic URL type

Choose "Dynamic URL" from the QR type selector. This type generates a short redirect URL, allowing you to change the destination after printing without creating a new QR code.

  3. 3

Enter a name and the destination URL

Give the QR code a name for your reference (e.g., "Product Page — Summer Campaign"). Paste the destination URL — this is where scanners will land when they scan the code. The name is for internal use only and is not encoded in the QR.

  4. 4

    Configure appearance (optional)

Optionally customize the QR code colors (foreground, background) and embed a logo. Keep the contrast ratio high to ensure reliable scanning. QRCode Suite validates minimum contrast before saving.

  5. 5

    Save and download

Click "Save QR Code." The QR code is generated and displayed in the editor. Click "Download PNG" for digital use or "Download SVG" for print. SVG exports are vector-quality at any size.

  6. 6

Update the destination at any time

To change the destination, open the QR code in QR Suite › QR Codes, update the URL field, and click Save. The printed code continues to work — it now redirects to the new destination.

Frequently asked questions

What is a dynamic QR code?

A dynamic QR code encodes a short redirect URL. The actual destination is stored in your WordPress database and can be changed at any time. This means you can update where a printed QR code points without reprinting it.

How many dynamic QR codes can I create?

The Free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes. Pro and above include unlimited dynamic QR codes.

What is a conditional redirect?

A conditional redirect sends scanners to different destinations based on rules — such as device type (iOS vs Android), country, time of day, or scan count. Conditional redirects are available on the Pro plan.

What formats can I export QR codes in?

All plans support PNG and SVG export. Pro adds CSV, XLSX, and PDF exports. Business adds ZIP asset export for bulk downloads.
